Halima Bello, a social media user who poses as an online bags vendor with a Facebook page dubbed ‘Awesome Deals’, is impersonating Odunayo Adams, another online vendor, FIJ has learnt.
Bello swindled one Blessing James, an Akwa-Ibom State resident, out of ₦10,000, with the promise of delivering three bags from Ogun State to Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital, on March 21.
To achieve this, she sent a video to James via Whatsapp. In this video, a woman can be heard saying, “Don’t go and buy bags for big big price o, I dey for you.” She also had an image of Odunayo Adams as her Whatsapp profile picture.
FIJ has since found out that the woman whose image and video Bello uses is Odunayo Adams, a vendor who runs a legitimate Instagram page @everythingfashionitem1.
Unsuspectingly, James paid for the bags and never got them. FIJ reported how Bello demanded a One-Time Password (OTP) Facebook sent to James, and then blocked her on Whatsapp after she failed to provide it.
Bello’s identity and location remains unknown to James and the newspaper.
When FIJ called and sent a message to her, she did not respond. She blocked the newspaper on Whatsapp after reading our message.
