Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian activist and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, was attacked by thugs at the premises of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday afternoon.

Sowore, who was in court to witness Nnamdi Kanu’s trial, came under attack while he was leaving the premises.

Videos obtained by FIJ show thugs gathered outside the court premises, waiting to deal with the activist. His vehicle sped through the waiting mob who threw stones at his windows, cracking and breaking them.

Sowore said he confirmed from the security officers attached to the court that the assailants were sent by the Department of State Service (DSS).

“These assailants were brought by the DSS, according to federal court security,” he said.

“Since my partial release in December 2019, the police and DSS have tried to maim or kill me in several documented/reported incidents of abuse and assault, including shooting of a riot gun, physical attacks and, recently, the use of non-state actors to violently assault me in public.”

FIJ made multiple calls to Peter Afunnaya, DSS spokesman, but he did not answer them. A text message sent to him was also not responded to.
