Olakunle Oluomo, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and three others have been charged for conspiracy, forgery and stealing by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the PUNCH, the 11 charges were filed by Rotimi Oyedepo, the EFCC’s Lagos head of legal monitoring unit, at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on September 1, 2022.
“That you Oluomo Taiwo, Oladayo Samuel, Adeyemo Taiwo and Adeyanju Amoke (now at large) sometimes in 2019 in Abeokuta within the jurisdiction of this honourable court conspired amongst yourselves to use the total sum of N2, 475 billion which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of the proceeds of your unlawful activity to wit: stealing from the treasury of Ogun State House of Assembly and you thereby committed an offence contrary to sections 18 (a), 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011, as amended and punishable under section 15 (3) of the same act,” the charge reads in part.

FIJ learned that the commission plans to present documents and exhibits, as well as call at least 10 witnesses to testify against Oluomo in court. On the list of witnesses are Adamu Yusuf, Otitoju Kolawale, Yazid Bawa, Anyanwu Bright, Adekunbi Mojibola, Munkaila Huzaifa, and Idowu Olarenwaju. Others are representatives of Ashkash Nigeria Ltd., representatives of Obasanjo Holdings Ltd. (managers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Mega Station) and representatives of Gateway Bank Ltd.

An unnamed EFCC source told the PUNCH that the commission would pursue the issue on Monday with an application in Abeokuta to have a vacation judge from the Federal High Court in Lagos hear the case this week.
FIJ had reported that the EFCC released Oluomo on bail and asked him to return to the anti-graft agency’s Lagos office with the Ogun State House of Assembly’s clerk and accountant for questioning on Monday.
