In attendance were President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Goodluck Jonathan and other dignitaries.
For the first 19 years after the return of Nigeria to democratic rule in 1999, Democracy Day was celebrated on every May 29. But in 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari moved the holiday to June 12 in honour of Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, who is believed to have won the June 12, 1993 presidential election annulled by Gen.
