The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Ikeja 1, Local Government Area, has reversed its decision to register only corps members with their INEC ad hoc staff registration slip in its ongoing monthly clearance exercise.

A source confirmed to FIJ that Adeshola Sanni, the NYSC Local Government Inspector (LGI) at the council, suddenly reversed the policy, saying that the INEC ad hoc staff registration exercise was only for interested corps members.

In a WhatsApp message shared after FIJ’s story, the LGI emphasised that the INEC ad-hoc staff registration was only for interested members.

“The registration is for interested Corps Members ONLY. With or without INEC PRINTOUT SLIP you will be attended to (November Biometric Clearance),” she wrote.

The update from NYSC in the group chat.

In a phone conversation with Sanni after FIJ’s story, she said at no time were corps members asked to present their INEC registration slips before they can be attended to.

“I got a call from the headquarters asking why corps members in my local government were asked to provide the INEC registration slip before they could be cleared for November,” she said.

“Why should I do that? I don’t work for INEC, so why should I be forcing corps members to register as INEC ad hoc staff?

“What do I stand to gain from it? I have told you that you can come to the local government to confirm and see things for yourself.”

FIJ had earlier reported how corps members serving under the Ikeja 1, Local Government Area were prevented from submitting their data for the November monthly clearance because of their inability to present their INEC registration slips at the local council.
