Oladapo Oyebanji, popularly known as D’banj, has been arrested and detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for diverting millions of N-Power funds in partnership with some government officials.

An anonymous source with the anti-graft agency said that operatives of the ICPC arrested and detained the singer on Tuesday after they forced him to surrender on the grounds that he’d be arrested anywhere in the world if he failed to show up.

Punch reported that D’banj, who is currently at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, was invited for questioning on multiple occasions in the past but did not show up, claiming that he was abroad for booked concerts.

“Our investigation shows that D’banj colluded with some government officials to infuse ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme. With this, the stipend paid to those ghost beneficiaries is directly paid to bank accounts linked to the singer,” the source told Punch.

“On arrival, he was interrogated for hours, after which he was detained, and his plea for administrative bail was rejected by officials for lack of trust.”

The source, who noted that an official statement would soon be released concerning the matter, confirmed that D’Banj would be arraigned in court this week for an extended remand order to enable further investigation before finally charging him to answer to the allegations.

D’Banj will be taken to court this week for an extended remand order to enable more investigation before bringing him to court to respond to the allegations. This is according to the source, who said that an official statement would soon be published regarding the situation.

When FIJ called the ICPC, the respondent said he would confirm the news and get back to our reporter.
