Olaide Sanusi, a Lagos State resident, has accused the Osun State Police Command of attempting to release a commercial motorcyclist who attempted to kill his sister on Monday.

Sanusi, on Thursday, told FIJ that hunters in the community caught the kidnapper, identified simply as Mofi, strangling Opeyemi, his sister, in a bush, and handed him over to policemen attached to the B Division, Oke-Iresi, Akoda Ede.

He said when the police invited his family and Mofi’s family, they began appealing to his family to allow Mofi cover Opeyemi’s hospital bills and let the matter die down like a civil dispute.

Speaking to FIJ, Sanusi said, “Police were asking us if we wanted to further the case by going to court or he should just pay the bill we used to treat my sister in the hospital.

“The matter should be a state matter, but they are asking us to settle it and let him go. The hunters told the police there had been numerous abductions in that area, and there was a ritual den, but the police did nothing.”

Sanusi told FIJ that Opeyemi was travelling from Oke Gada to Abeokuta in Ogun State on Monday and boarded a motorcycle to Ede at about 5:45 am. Mofi was riding the motorcycle.

When they got to Ede, Mofi carried her into a bush, pulled out her phone charger and began strangling her with it. Hunters caught him in the act and handed him over to the police.

FIJ called Yemisi Opalola, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, on Thursday afternoon, and she promised to investigate the matter and get back to our reporter.
