Police officers in Dugbe Police Station, Osogbo, Osun State, have asked Oluwadamilola Babatunde, the Lagos-based phone vendor one of them extorted N660,000 from between May and June, to travel down to the state for a refund.
Sola Afolabi, a police officer, had arrested Babatunde in Lagos, taken him to Osun and collected the sum from him. Part of this sum was billed as cost of the police having to travel to and from Lagos.
After finding Babatunde and one of his friends innocent of allegations against them, Yemisi Opalola, sposkesperson of the state police command, told FIJ that Afolabi would make monthly refunds in intallments.

However, Babatunde told FIJ that when he called Akinloye Oyegade, the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of the station where Afolabi works, to demand for the August installment, the officer asked him to travel to the station for it.
“I told them I could not make it down, and asked that they transfer the money to me, but they said they couldn’t transfer,” Babatunde told FIJ. “I also asked that they give it to someone I would send over, but they also refused.
“One Philip Ekisah, an officer there, called me to say he was with the money and would only give me if I came down to the station.”
