On Monday, a source close to the family told FIJ that Afeez, a young man in his twenties, worked as a fashion designer. Before his death, he was renowned for his prowess in designing and sewing.  He also had a piece of land in Toro, where he and his father, a carpenter, farmed.

According to the source, the family had been thrown into mourning since the incident happened on Friday.

“Afeez’s mother, who not only lost her husband but also her son, has been incapacitated. She is currently oblivious of things around her and has not been talking to people since the incident”, he said.

Akinwande Marcus, another person who lost his life in the unfortunate incident, was an Ife indigene. He was on his way to the farm where he grew crops for his consumption and sale when he was attacked and killed.

Although Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, debunked rumours that it was a resurgence of the Ife-Modakeke crisis, Funke Egbemode, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said Governor Gboyega Oketola had spoken to the Ooni and Moses Oyediran Oladejo, the Ogunsua of Modakeke, to ensure peace in their communities.
