Sheyi Shobayo, a travel agent, has refunded N225,000 to Valentino Chukwuebuka, a Lagos-based trader who had paid him to help process a Canadian visa.
This happened on Sunday, almost nine months after FIJ first brought the issue to light and nearly four years after Chukwuebuka initiated the payment to Shobayo.
“On Sunday morning, I got a refund of ₦255,000 owed to me by Sheyi Shobayo for four years. Although we settled amicably, I want to thank FIJ for its support. God bless you guys,” Chukwuebuka told FIJ.
Last August, FIJ reported that Shobayo collected N255,000 between October and November 2020 from Chukwuebuka to process his Canadian visa after he failed to get a Turkish visa.
Chukwuebuka said a few days after he completed the payment, Shobayo’s demeanour changed, thus causing him to question his decision. According to him, a week after paying him in full, Shobayo said he had not started the process. This was when he requested a refund.
Shobayo would not respond to Chukwuebuka’s calls until he used someone else’s number. Two weeks ago, however, Shobayo reached out to him and asked for a settlement. The result was a refund of N255,000.
