The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Anyim Pius Anyim, a former President of the Nigerian Senate; and Ayo Fayose, a former Governor of Ekiti State, over anti-party activities.

In a statement signed by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, on Thursday, the party approved the suspension of Fayose and Anyim.

Other members of the party affected by the suspension are Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, Ibrahim Shema and Dr. Aslam Aliyu from Katsina, Benue and Zamfara states respectively.

The party also referred Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State, to its disciplinary committee over disloyalty.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has, after very extensive review of the affairs of our Party in the country and pursuant to the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), referred the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom to the National Disciplinary Committee over his reported involvement in anti-party activities,” the statement read.

“The PDP urges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our Party across the country to remain united and focused at this critical time.”

Fayose was recently seen campaigning for Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the governorship election held last Saturday.

Ortom is a member of the PDP G-5 governors who fought the party over the outcome of its presidential primary election in 2022. He worked in support of the presidential ambition of Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
