The Meiran Police Division, Alagbado, has paid N100,000 for the repair of the phones of Bakare Ibrahim, a Disk Jockey (DJ), and Oyeniyi Abeeb, a Master of Ceremony (MC), following FIJ’s report on their manhandling by policemen.

The police will also pay balance of N40,000 once the repair is completed.

On Sunday, the young men were assaulted by police officers attached to the division at the Command Area of Lagos State for refusing to surrender their ATM cards, and their iPhone 11 Pro max and iPhone Xs Max phones were damaged in the process.

While talking to FIJ on Monday, Ibrahim had said the phones were important to their businesses and that they no longer had any phone to make video skits or record their performance for promotion.

“Our phones are important instruments that play a big role in the work we do,” he had lamented. “We really need to have them repaired.”

On Tuesday when they visited the police station, an engineer was called in to repair their phones.

“The engineer estimated the cost of repair to be N140,000, and the Police paid N100,000 on the spot. The remaining N40,000 balance will be given to him after the repair,” Ibrahim said.

This came after FIJ’s report that the two young men were assaulted while going to pick up some of their instruments from the venue of their previous show.

When contacted, Shonubi Toyosi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Meran Police Division, had assured FIJ that the victims would be compensated.
