Paulson Alaba Lawani, also known as Paulson the Great, has raised the alarm about a poorly constructed road along Igarra-Auchi Expressway, Edo State.

In a video recorded on Saturday and subsequently posted on the Facebook page of Gossip Wahala, Lawani said the ongoing Federal Government road project was a waste of scarce resources as it would not last.

“Now, they are constructing a road and the tools used for the construction are still here. It is not as if they have completed the construction, yet, the newly constructed road is already peeling off,” he said in pidgin English.

Lawani, who went viral in July after exposing Royal Jeff Nigeria Limited’s poor construction of a road and drainage at Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, recorded his latest video while standing at a section of the road leading to Ipeshi.

He said if state governments hid under inadequate funding to execute poor projects, the Federal Government should not be found doing the same.

“These are constructions that are supposed to stand the test of time and last for long. A lot of things are really going on in this country,” he said. “The funds we keep borrowing as a nation are supposed to be spent judiciously, not wasted. As far as I am concerned, this particular construction is already a waste.”

He demonstrated how poorly constructed the road was by using his hands to peel off a few edges from a section and they came off easily.

“This construction was started yesterday and, today, cracks are already visible. A portion of it is already coming off. Tomorrow, you’ll hear that this road has been re-awarded to a new contractor. If you call yourself a government that really cares about its citizens, you should do things the right way,” he said.

“The fact that you call this a palliative measure does not mean you should waste our hard-earned money. If you don’t want to do it, don’t do it. And if it is just half a kilometer you know you can construct properly, do it the right way. At least everyone will know that we are to continue the construction from where you stopped.

“I feel very sorry for this country. I also feel sorry for our so called representatives who don’t represent us well at the National Assembly. The Federal Government is supposed to be a symbol of federal standards. The moment you start feeling there’s hope for this country, something dramatic always happens and the hope vanishes within seconds.

When Lawani made a video complaining about the poorly constructed road and drainage system at Igarra, Phillip Shuaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, visited the area to inspect the state of things. In the end, the state government rejected the project.
