Three months after Adeniyi Megbabi sent a 2011 Nissan from the United States through Adelove Shipping Company to Wale, his Nigeria-based brother, the company has not delivered the vehicle.

The Megbabi brothers think they might have been duped by a company endorsed by David Adeleke (Davido), Nigeria’s famous pop singer, and several other celebrities.

“The car has been at the port for about a month now, but customs officers have refused to release it. I do not know if Adelove Shipping still owes them but my brother made all the necessary payment to them,” Wale said.

In May, Adeniyi paid over $1,200 (over N600,000) for the shipping and $250 for the replacement of the vehicle’s windshield. He was given the shipment ID with which his brother would track and claim the vehicle at the port.

However, the receiver has been visiting the Apapa Sea Port for a while now. The officers insist they will have to see a representative of Adelove Shipping, something that has proven nearly impossible.

A few weeks ago, the officers told Wale they would auction the car if it was not claimed soon. Adeniyi filed a case against the business in Texas but the hearing could not start as Adelove could not be reached with court papers. Several visits to the company’s Texas office address yielded no fruit.   

ADELOVE SHIPPING COMPANY

Adelove Shipping LLC is a cargo freight servicing company registered by Adegbayi A. Adefalujo. It is registered in Texas with the taxpayer number 32066144786.  

According to its website, Adelove Shipping is a “well-maintained cargo freight servicing that offers air freight transportation, ocean freight, customs brokerage, and nationwide cargo pick up services, among others”.   

The business has an Instagram page and a couple other social media accounts. Although not registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), it has branches in Lagos and Abuja.

Over the years, they have had popular individuals and influencers like David Adeleke (Davido), Josh Alfred (Josh2funny), Mercy Aigbe, Ayo Ajewole (Woli Agba) and Samuel A. perry (Broda Shaggi) advertise their business.

HISTORY OF MISSING GOODS

In July, FIJ reported the case of Blessing Rita whose luggage was never delivered. For seven months, the cargo freight company held on to five boxes of baby items sent by Rita’s sister.

In a broadcast by CBS Chicago, Jermont Terry interviewed a couple of customers who had fallen victim to the shipping company. A man said he paid Adelove $1500 to ship a car to his mom but it was not delivered and no refund was made.

Right in front of the business’s office, Jeremy also met with a woman who had been visiting constantly but had not been able to see any of the company’s representatives.

“Complaints are pouring in nationwide about Adelove Shipping. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) in Houston, where the company is based, gives it an ‘F’ rating,” Jeremy said.          

On the Better Business Bureau’s website, FIJ found more than 20 comments from persons dissatisfied with Adelove’s services.

ADELOVE SHIPPING HAS NO LICENCE

On July 15, CBS 2 said the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) found that the business had no licence and should not be operating.

Recently, the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP), Chicago, launched an investigation into Adelove Shipping as it had received several fraud complaints from clients.

FIJ gathered that Adelove Shipping no longer operates in the uptown location known to be its headquarters. The company has also restricted comments on its Instagram page.

Calls placed to the phone numbers displayed on the company’s website did not connect. The company also did not respond to a message sent to its Instagram page.
