Community Secondary School, Araromi Aperin, in the Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, has been given the name ‘hell on earth’ by its students and teachers.

The reason for this is that learning becomes difficult any time it rains.

The school, with terrible roofing sheets and classroom ceilings, leaves students’ writing materials unsafe and brings learning to a halt any time there is a heavy downpour.

A source, who asked not to be named, told FIJ that the school had been in a dilapidated state for over 40 years.

“The two and half classes being managed by students and teachers of the school only have concrete floors with no hairs and lockers for students,” the source said.

“The classes do not have windows and ceilings.

“The number of functional classrooms in a secondary school should be many. But here, we only have two. Several government agencies have visited the school to only take pictures of it.

“No single toilet. No single laboratory. The school has been founded for more than 40 years. It’s the only secondary school along Ijebu Igbo road. The school is just in a sorry state.”

In Yoruba, Ona-Ara literally means ‘miraculous way’. Presently, the school urgently needs a miracle to get a required renovation, so that learning under a conducive condition can be enhanced.
