An autopsy report has reinforced the claim by the family of Yusuf Alowonle, a former student activist at the Lagos State University (LASU), that his death was premeditated.

Against past claims that Alowonle, famously called Omomewa, died of a bullet wound, the autopsy conducted by Mgbeoma A.I., a doctor at the Department of Pathology and Forensics, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, revealed the deceased died as a result of “massive haemoperitoneum, combined sharp and blunt force, and trauma to the abdomen”.

Speaking with FIJ, Temilolu Yusuf, the family’s lawyer, said, “The analysis clearly shows that Alowonle was not shot at”. The result showed that he was attacked. There were bruises on his back, and a heavy hit all over his body forced his ninth rib to pierce his liver. The pierced liver emptied all his blood in his stomach. This couldn’t have been some sort of armed robbery. The death was premeditated.”

Alowonle died on the night of August 18 at the LASU entrance gate, some hours after attending an investigative panel set up by the institution to probe allegations of admission racketeering against him.

Reacting to claims that it had a hand in Alowonle’s death, LASU, through Ademola Adekoya, it’s spokesperson, had said the deceased was “attacked by men of the underworld”, who dispossessed him of his valuables and shot at him.
