Alan Fisher, a Japan-based Irish chef, has displaced Hilda Baci, the Nigerian celebrity chef who set a record of the longest cooking marathon by an individual in June.

Damilola Adeparusi, a student from Ekiti State, had attempted to break Baci’s record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. Although Alina Polianskaya, a public relations executive at the GWR, subsequently confirmed to FIJ that the Guinness World Records (GWR) was aware of Adeparusi’s effort, she was never recognised as the record holder.

However, on Tuesday morning, the GWR revealed that Fisher, the new record holder, cooked for 119 hours, 57 minutes, breaking Baci’s record of 93 hours, 11 minutes.

Fisher, who is also a restaurant owner and baker, broke the record for the longest cooking marathon and longest baking marathon by an individual. Both activities he undertook simultaneously.

“Alan then claimed the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes. The previous record holder was Wendy Sandner (USA) with a time of 31 hours 16 minutes,” GWR wrote.

“What’s even more impressive is that Alan took on both attempts back to back, meaning he was at work in the kitchen for over 160 hours with just over a day of rest in between.”

During his cook-a-thon and bake-a-thon which lasted nine days, he prepared 3,360 portions of dishes with over 32 recipes.

“After nine days of baking and cooking, Alan had made 357 kg worth of soda bread and 590 kg worth of dishes (3,360 portions consisting of 32 recipes),” said GWR.
