Ngozi Onadeko, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, has ordered the arrest of four policemen, including Samson Badru, who extorted N150,000 from Jesugbemi Emmanuel, a young musician, in Ibadan on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Adewale Osifeso, the spokesman of the State Police Command, the preliminary investigation by the police’s inquiry team over the case revealed that Badru does not serve under the state command even though the jurisdiction of his accomplices were yet to be known.

On Thursday, FIJ reported how Emmanuel was physically harassed by these policemen before his phone and alongside the money meant to pay his grandmother, house rent, were collected.

In a statement sent to FIJ on Friday evening, Osifeso added: “Investigations are in top gear to apprehend all the officers involved in the unpleasant actions for their various involvements with the assurances of adequate sanctions meted out on all guilty parties upon recommendations from the investigation panel.

“The command sues for calm while appealing to members of the public that no offender(s) would on any account be indulged to evade deserved Justice regardless of status or affiliations.”

Since the proscription of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian Police in October 2020, FIJ has reported several cases of police brutality, extortion, and harassment.
