Samuel Ajeibi, an agent who claims to help students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) secure hostel bed space allocations, has refunded N120,000 to Priscilla Ogu and Deborah Chukwu (not real names), two students he failed to secure allocations for after collecting N150,000.
Ajeibi made the refund on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after FIJ reported how he collected their money and failed to deliver for two months.
Ogu told FIJ he made the payments in instalments: N50,000, N50,000 and N20,000.
“At first he was proposing a N50,000 refund, but we settled for N120,000 so he could keep N30, 000 for his efforts,” she added. “He sent the money on Wednesday morning.”
Before refunding, Ajeibi called FIJ to reveal he had reached an agreement with the students to refund within seven days.
However, Ogu told the newspaper that he paid all in one morning.
Ajeibi earlier collected the sum on November 20, 2023, with a pledge to get bed spaces for the students in New Hall hostel, but after failing to do so, he failed to refund their money as agreed.
When FIJ contacted him, he declined to comment.
