Priscilla Ogu and Deborah Chukwu (not real names), students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos, have narrated to FIJ how they paid N150,000 to Samuel Ajeibi to help secure on-campus hostel bed spaces but he failed.
The ladies said they made the payment on November 20, 2023, after trying and failing to secure spaces in New Hall hostel on their own. Ajeibi, according to the ladies, told them he could help and would refund if he failed.
Two months after, Ajeibi sent them messages saying that he was working on it. The ladies have gone on to get allocations in other hostels and have demanded their refund, but Ajeibi won’t budge.
“He told us there would be no issue if we paid and he was attending to those who paid him first,” Ogu told FIJ. “We paid and asked that he get us spaces in New Hall.

“Afterwards, he agreed and said, ‘No issue there.’ There were many issues. He would tell us he had sent our names and seen them somewhere as approved but it had yet to reflect on our portal as allocated.
“We usually ballot for hostels, but not everyone gets slots on their own, so Ajeibi was supposed to be an agent through whom we would get a guaranteed allocation.
“When we got the hostels ourselves after speaking with the DSA, we told Ajeibi we no longer needed his services. We did not get New Hall, so he did not help in getting the one we got. We told him to take a cut for his effort and return what was left, but he did not budge.”
FIJ called Ajeibi on Sunday, but he did not take our calls. On Sunday night, he responded to messages we sent to him earlier.
On the allegation, he said, “That’s one juicy story to tell, isn’t it?” When FIJ asked if he was going to respond, he said, “Not at the moment. I can’t.”
FIJ called and texted him on Monday and Tuesday, but he did not respond.
