The Nigerian senate has confirmed Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new chairman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The plenary where the screening took place was headed by Ahmad Lawan, the senate president.

President Muhammadu Buhari had transmitted the appointment of the 40-year-old diplomat to the senate last week Tuesday.

Bawa will now replace Ibrahim Magu, the ex-police chief who is currently being investigated by a panel headed by Ayo Salami, the former president of the appeal court, over allegations of corruption and insubordination in office.
