Flutterwave has refunded Clement Aina’s $480 stuck since September 2023. This came after FIJ’s report detailing how Vella Finance declared Aina’s transaction lost after a failed attempt to pay into his account through Flutterwave.

Aina told FIJ that Flutterwave contacted him about the refund on March 18, about five days after FIJ published the report. On March 20, he got a refund of the naira equivalent of $480 in his Kuda account.

FIJ had earlier reported how what Aina considered to be a usual deposit lag cost his sibling a chance to travel to Canada in 2023.

He had deposited the naira equivalent of $480 into his Vella account with the hope of stashing money for his brother’s survival in Canada.

The report also detailed how Vella refused to acknowledge Aina’s request for a refund despite contacting them through all the known social media handles.

“I got the email from Flutterwave on March 18, and now I have got the refund. I lost hope already, and I am so grateful to FIJ. Words cannot express how grateful I am, sir,” said Aina.
