The abducted students of Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamfara State, have regained freedom from their abductors.

According to TVC, the students were taken to the palace of the Emir of Anka after their release, and are now awaiting transportation to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

Seven out of the girls were said to have escaped on Friday morning and the remaining 310 transported into the forest.

The abduction took place around 1am on Friday, when a group of gunmen shot at security men at the entrance of the Government Girls Secondary School, entered the girls hostel and woke up students, saying it was time for prayers. After the girls had gathered, they were ordered into waiting vehicles and driven off.

Several mass abductions orchestrated by bandits have hit Nigeria in recent times. A week before the whisking away of Jangebe girls, about 42 people, including 27 students, were kidnapped in Kagara, Niger state.
