29.06.2024 Featured After FIJ’s Story, IBEDC Customer Gets N201,844 Credit Adjustment

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has given a credit adjustment of N201,844 to Lamidi Anifa, who lives in Osun State.

This adjustment came two months after FIJ reported how Oke Bamikole, a marketer at the company, collected money for the procurement of a prepaid meter from the customer through Saheed, her son, but failed to deliver it.

“The company has addressed our complaint. The bill they brought for May read that they have removed N201,844.84 from our outstanding,” Saheed said. “Additionally, the month’s current charge fairly reflected our energy recorded by our post-paid meter compared to the previous months when they were billing us disproportionately.”

“My mother is so happy, and we thank FIJ for reporting our story.”

Saheed had helped his mother pay N71,000 in August 2023 and N15,000 in February 2024 to Oke, all towards the procurement and installation of a new prepaid meter. This was after his unsuccessful personal effort to make the payment via IBEDC payment portal.

Oke then made the customer believe he had initiated the procurement process and went ahead to inform them that the company had stopped issuing monthly electricity bills to her residence, pending when the meter would be delivered.

Saheed eventually found out sometime in February that the marketer had been deceiving them all along. Indeed, Oke admitted that he had spent the money for his personal needs.

Surprisingly, the bill delivered to Anifa in March showed that her outstanding arrears had increased from N47,472 to N211,998. FIJ found that this amounted to an average of N24,216 per month from August 2023 to March 2024.

Some days after the report, Kikelomo Owoeye, the company’s Osun region spokesperson, reached out to FIJ and promised to investigate the complaint in order to resolve it.
