Two years after Damilare Adebayo paid Chiagabizu Ugochukwu, a cryptocurrency and gadget vendor, for a Ledger Nano X, a hardware wallet for managing crypto & NFTs, he has not got it.

Adebayo contacted Ugochukwu in 2022 because he wanted to purchase a Ledger Nano X and a phone, but his instincts nudged him to only pay for the first item and wait until Ugochukwu delivered it before making payment for the second.

He paid Ugochukwu the sum of N145,000 for the item to be delivered two weeks later, but when the delivery time came, the latter said he had encountered some issues with shipping.

“He told me that the shipping was delayed. I decided to give him an extra week, and when it elapsed, I told him I wanted a refund. He refunded only N20,000 and told me he would refund the remaining N125,000 when the ledger balance arrived,” said Adebayo.

“Because of that, my friend made a post on Instagram, tagged him and labeled him a scammer. He got furious and vowed never to refund my balance until my friend apologised to him for calling him out on Instagram,” Adebayo told FIJ.

He also told FIJ that he decided not to press further but attempt other means to get his refund because he would spend close to or more than the money Ugochukwu owed.

“If I wanted to get a court order, it would cost me almost double the amount needed. Writing a petition also costs about N90,000. I don’t want to engage in violence because two wrongs do not make a right,” he told FIJ.

When FIJ contacted Ugochukwu on Friday, he was dismissive. He told this reporter that he did not have unresolved businesses.

“We don’t have unresolved businesses. Has your person sent an invoice if he did business with us?” He asked.

When this reporter sent him the invoice he requested, he wrote:

“We are closed on this, Madam.”

This reporter also asked him why he blocked Adebayo on WhatsApp, but he did not respond.
