Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has directed Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to grant Rahmon Adedoyin access to medical care while still in detention.

The ruling was given on Thursday pending the determination of Adedoyin’s fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed before the court by Kunle Adegoke, his counsel.

“What the judge has done is to allow Dr. Rahmon Adedoyin access to medical treatment while still in police custody,” a lawyer present at the hearing told FIJ.

“It is just a way of allowing him to get medical attention, pending the time the next hearing for the fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by his lawyer would be held,” the source added.

Prior to the ruling, Adedoyin’s team had filed a bail application at the court, seeking the release of the hotel owner on health grounds.

However, the judge, in his ruling, ordered him to serve the motion and other processes in the case on the IGP, the sole respondent, and adjourned the hearing until December 9.

Rahmon Adedoyin was arrested on November 15 over the death of Timothy Adegoke, the OAU MBA student found dead near Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, Osun State, eight days after he was declared missing.
