Abimbola Olumurewa-Abel, a Lagos-based banker, has accused Jumia Nigeria, an online shopping platform, of refusing to make a N19,000 refund to her one month after failing to deliver an item she had ordered.

Olumurewa-Abel told FIJ that an electric kettle was delivered to her instead of the blender she had ordered from the platform in March.

“What I had ordered for was a blender from Jumia. But to my greatest surprise, an electric kettle was what was delivered to me by the platform on March 21,” she said.

“I immediately reached out to them and they came for the item promising to refund my money but they never did. It is no longer about the money, it is now about the fact that I can no longer trust their service.

“Everytime I talk about my refund they will blame system glitch for the delay. Yesterday, I made an order and it was successful. How come the system knows how to collect money but suddenly experiences system glitch when it comes to refund. I work as a banker and I find it hard to believe that there can be a system glitch for more than 14 days.”

Olumurewa-Abel told FIJ she had not received her refund despite weeks of reassurances from the online shopping outfit.

When FIJ contacted Jumia Nigeria for comments regarding the customer’s complaints, Adenike Solarin, one of the company’s customer care representatives, promised a feedback after running ‘a proper check on Olumurewa-Abel’s request’.

However, Solarin never came back with a feedback as promised.
