Adeleye Adejokun, an Oyo State-based clergyman, has narrated how Industrial and General Insurance (IGI) refused to pay the premium due to his deceased wife, 11 years after her demise.

Adejokun told FIJ that Juliana Adejokun, his late wife, had subscribed to the life assurance in 2001.

“Unfortunately, she had died 10 years later in a traffic accident in Zaria, Kaduna State,” Adejokun said.

Following his wife’s death, the clergyman said he requested to be paid the N1.3 million insurance entitlement belonging to the deceased but the insurance company refused to do so.

“This was not the only insurance plan she subscribed to. There are others like the Capital insurance, Lasaco Insurance Ltd and Goldlink insurance Ltd. With the intervention of National Insurance Commission, they’ve all paid,” said Adejokun.

“IGI, however, has refused to do the same despite their written agreement to effect the payment in March 2021.”

Adejokun added that, according to the contents of the agreement, IGI was supposed to have made the payment by the end of the second quarter of 2021.

“Unfortunately, the entire family is still waiting anxiously for the payment till date,” the clergyman said.

When FIJ contacted IGI via a phone conversation on Monday, Blessing Ayamboro, the customer care representative who responded, promised a swift resolution on the issue.

Adejokun has however confirmed that the insurance company is yet to come up with a resolution as promised, at press time.
