24.06.2022 Featured In Abuja Community, Bandits Burn Tractors, Abduct 22 Farmers

Bandits have run amok in Abuja, burning two tractors and kidnapping 22 farmers, Daily Trust reported. The terrorists attacked Rafin-Daji community in the Gurdi ward of Abaji Area Council, Abuja on Thursday. 

Saidu Yakubu, a farmer and eyewitness, told reporters that he saw the bandits with AK-47 rifles. According to Yakubu, the bandits attacked the abductees while they were working on a farm in their community. The terrorists shot sporadically into the air and set two tractors ablaze on the large farmland before capturing the farmers.

About 13 members of Yakubu’s family – two women and eleven men – were among the 22 abductees, Daily Trust reported.

Yakubu’s kinsmen include Ismaila Barde, Mustapha Barde, Nasiru Barde, Abdulkarim Barde, Nura Barde, Abdullahi Barde, Babawo Barde, Farida Ayuba, Hauwa Ayuba, Hussaini Abdullahi, Sanusi Barde, and Usman Barde. 

“It was only God that saved me as I managed to escape when the bandits were shooting into the air,” Yakubu was quoted to have said.

Oduniyi Omotayo, spokesman of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, confirmed the Thursday attack. Omotayo told reporters that the police were making ongoing efforts to rescue the abductees and apprehend the abductors.

“Upon receipt of the information, a combined team of police officers from various tactical and intelligence units of the command, hunters and vigilantes stormed the forest and combed it aggressively,” Omotayo said.
