Azeezat Fayemi (not real name), a business developer in Lagos, has accused Ultrainfinity, a crypto firm supposedly headquartered in Europe, of exploiting her and other Nigerians to achieve its business goals.

Fayemi told FIJ that after she rendered services to the company in July, her salary payment was tied to a condition that was not included in the offer letter given to her.

The business developer said the company’s fine image did not let her realise on time that it was out to defraud people.

She added that after assuming work with Ultrainfinity as a remote business developer on July 5, the company tasked her with recruiting 15 influencers to help push its business model.

THE JOB ROLE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

She said the influencers were to help promote the company’s yet-to-be-launched coins, and her job was to recruit them monthly.

“They said the pay was $100 a month but would be increased after three months. They did not add a clause to the payment, so, I felt talking to people online was not much of a big deal,” Fayemi said.

Fayemi stated that while working with Ultrainfinity, she became accustomed to verbal abuse, as her supervisors, simply identified as Victoria and Natalia, would always take offence whenever she asked questions for clarification.

“They would say certain unclear things and whenever I asked them what they meant, they could say they spoke in English or ask me if I was blind or stupid,” she said.

She said at the end of July, she thought it was unnecessary to request for her salary.

“My belief was that they would find it ideal to pay me. However, they did not. Rather, they changed their terms of payment,” she said.

“They said we had to recruit at least 100 influencers in a month before we got paid. But in our offer letter, there was no such clause.

“At some point, Ultrainfinity asked us to open new Skype and Gmail accounts. At this point, I should have suspected that something was wrong, but I did not.

“Later, they asked me to use my details to open a LinkedIn account and send the passwords to them, which I did. I reflected over the request and it made no sense.”

ULTRAINFINITY NOT NEW TO EXPLOITING NIGERIANS

She said she saw other Nigerians complain about how Ultrainfinity used its LinkedIn accounts to recruit unsuspecting people.

Fayemi said the company later stated that it would not pay her and the other influencers she recruited. After making this announcement, the company changed its name from Ultrainfinity to Uniqcrypto.

“I stopped working for a while, expecting that they would pay. But they did not care that we were not working; they just started recruiting new people,” Fayemi said.

“We got angry and started writing things about them on Twitter, so they changed their name from Ultrainfinity to Uniqcrypto. And now, they’re beginning the recruiting process all over again.

“They told their recruiters not to recruit people from Nigeria because we have exposed them as fraudulent. They initially told their new recruits that most of us were fake and dumb.”

FIJ emailed Ultrainfinity but it had not responded at press time.

FIJ found on the internet that several Nigerians have had terrible experiences with Ultrainfinity.
