Ilolo Omoruyi (not real name), a route marshal at CitiServe, a nationwide venture that offers point of sale (PoS) services, has narrated how the organisation reneged on its agreement after he surpassed the target set for him.

Omoruyi told FIJ that several other route marshals working for CitiServe were also denied the emoluments that come with meeting targets.

He said that the company had come up with a new policy in May, which stated that the salaries of route marshals would depend on whether they exceeded their target of meeting 300 merchants in a month.

He stated that CitiServe assured route marshals that they would be compensated if they exceeded their targets but failed to keep its promise.

“Some people and I surpassed this target in June, but they deducted N9,000 from our salaries. And when we complained, they said it was from the management. As of now, they haven’t paid us either our emoluments or our salary for July. And we’re still working,” Omoruyi told FIJ.

He said he visited over 400 merchants in July but the company would rather come up with another payment policy than pay him.

“They came up with another policy. They said that they didn’t just want us to surpass our target of meeting 300 PoS merchants monthly but wanted us to meet active terminals,” he said.

FIJ called Saheed Gbajabiamila, the head of payment terminal services at Citiserve, but he threatened and insulted our reporter.

“Just shut up. It took me only two hours to investigate who you are. You just picked up your phone to ask me sensitive questions. Are you that dumb? Is that how investigative journalism is done? You are dumb to ask me that. You will tell me who sanctioned this call. Idiot,” he said.
