Nneji Henry, a medical doctor, has detailed how some police officers stationed at Idumukpoko junction in Delta State extorted N50,000 from him on Sunday.

In a Twitter thread on Sunday, Henry said that the police officers threatened to arrest him if he failed to comply with them.

He said he was travelling from Edo State to Onitsha when the group of officers stopped him and asked to search him.

Henry said during the search, the officers saw some medicines in his baggage and immediately said they were controlled drugs.

“The police immediately tagged my medicines as controlled drugs and requested I pay N100,000 to bail myself out,” Henry tweeted.

“I tried calling my consultants and our resident doctors’ association, but they had seized my phone. We were in the middle of nowhere when they brought out the handcuffs and turned the threat game on.

“The head of the ‘gang’ said nobody was coming to save me from here. These guys finally made away with my money – N50,000.00 cash. I’ve never had a cause to talk so bitterly against the Nigerian police but for today.”

When FIJ called Bright Edafe, the Delta State police spokesperson, he said it was an accusation that Henry needed to prove.

“The men are on their way to Asaba, but when they get here, they’d say they didn’t collect bribe. People should not give out their money and chicken out because it will encourage them to do more,” Edafe said.
