The Ekiti State University (EKSU) has ordered the resumption of full academic activities from Thursday.

The university made this known in an official statement signed by Bode Olofinmuagun, its head of directorate of information and corporate affairs on Wednesday:

“The management of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has directed that full academic activities should resume on campus with effect from tomorrow, Thursday, 22nd September, 2022,” the statement read in part.

“Accordingly, round off lectures for second semester of 2020/2021 academic session have been scheduled to hold between Thursday, 22nd September and Friday, 21st October, 2022, while the second semester examination for the 2020/2021 academic session would hold between Monday, 24th October and Saturday, 5th November, 2022.
“Meanwhile, lectures for 100 level students admitted for 2021/2022 academic session will commence on Monday, 3rd October, 2022. Students should note that ONLY DULY REGISTERED STUDENTS of the university will have access to all the academic activities.

“The management of the university hereby appeals to all the academic and non-teaching staff of the institution to give their maximum support so that both the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions would be completed without further delay with a view to ensuring the survival of our common heritage (Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti).”

EKSU will resume academic activities despite the industrial strike affecting most public universities in Nigeria.

A prominent member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had told FIJ that the union would not be suspending its strike action immediately, despite a court order that the strike be called off.

In August, ASUU declared an indefinite strike action following an initial six-month shutdown of public universities over unmet demands.

Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU President, said that the federal government had deceived the union for over five years.
