The abductors of the schoolchildren taken in Emure-Ekiti on Monday have demanded a ransom of N100 million – around N10.1 million for each – to secure the release of the pupils, teachers and bus driver who are being held hostage.

This was disclosed by a staff member of the children’s school in an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday.

FIJ had reported that an unspecified number of the pupils of Apostolic Faith Nursery and Primary School, Emure-Ekiti, were kidnapped on their way to Eporo-Ekiti on Monday. On the same day, gunmen killed two Ekiti traditional rulers – Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Imojo, and Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti. Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara Ekiti, only narrowly escaped.

A relative of one of the kidnapped schoolchildren, who pleaded anonymity, also confirmed the kidnappers’ demand of N10 million each for the release of the victims.

“They called the family of one of the schoolchildren, and they are requesting N10 million per victim. What we gathered is that there are nine persons kidnapped – five schoolchildren, two teachers, one bus assistant and a driver,” the source was quoted to have said.
