An unspecified number of schoolchildren were kidnapped on Monday in the Emure Local Council area of Ekiti State.
The kidnapped children are pupils of the Apostolic Faith Nursery and Primary School. The bus was going to Eporo Ekiti from Emure Ekiti when the incident happened.

A video shared on X showed that the school bus, with some broken windows, was abandoned by the roadside alongside the bags, food baskets and lunch bags of the children, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The video captured the comments made by locals at the abandoned bus scene, including “What kind of problem is this?” and “There is no security in our country.” Additionally, one resident said, “Those children cannot allow them (the kidnappers) to walk fast because they (the children) cannot walk.”

Also on Monday, gunmen killed two traditional rulers who were returning from a security meeting in Irele Ekiti.
While Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, and Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, were shot dead by the assailants, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara Ekiti, escaped.
Reports reveal that the monarchs were attacked between Oke-Ako and Ipao Ekiti.
Findings revealed that the killings of the two monarchs and the kidnapping of the schoolchildren happened on the same day Biodun Oyebanji, Ekiti State governor, held the state security council meeting in the state capital.

A post the governor shared on X on Monday night revealed that stakeholders at the meeting “extensively discussed security issues and reviewed measures taken to promote peace and enhance intelligence gathering across communities in the state”.
Sunday Abutu, the police public relations officer in Ekiti, could not be reached for comments or additional information as phone calls and messages to him were not answered.
