Kuda Bank has lifted the restriction it placed on an account belonging to Oluwasogo Adedapo, a final year mass communication student at Osun State Polytechnic, Ire, Osun State.

The account had a balance of N827,280 when the fintech decided to place a restriction on it on November 30.

Adedapo had reached out to FIJ on Thursday for help when he found out that Kuda had placed the sum on restriction without any prior notice.

“I am the president of my department’s student association,” Adedapo said during his distress call to FIJ.

“While we were preparing for our final year project defence in my department, we, the students, agreed to make contributions towards the event. As a matter of fact, the contributions were made by HND II and ND II students because the ND II students did projects too at their level.

“In the process, some students contributed N2,000, while some contributed N1,000. Now, for the purpose of accountability and transparency, I decided to use my Kuda account for the collection. At the end of the day, a statement would be printed and students would get to see who contributed what amount.”

Adedapo then added that while checking the account on November 30, he noticed it had been placed on restriction.

“When I saw that it had been placed on restriction, I immediately called Kuda Bank’s customer care desk. And they started demanding for documents I had already provided while opening the account,” said Adedapo.

“They demanded for my primary ID card, student ID card and utility bill and I submitted everything to them. Despite sending them what they requested for, however, Kuda Bank would not lift the restriction on the account. The funniest part was the Kuda account had always been a Tier 3 account, so a restriction should not have even been placed on it in the first place.

“When I told students of the department what had happened, some did not believe me. Some of them started insinuating that I was trying to defraud them. This gave me sleepless nights, and I don’t even want any trouble for myself, my family name and my reputation. More importantly, I don’t want to incur students’ wrath.

“I have continued to plead with Kuda, via emails and phone calls, to lift the restriction, but they have even stopped responding to me altogether.”

After Adedapo’s distress call, FIJ sent an email to Kuda’s fraud desk on Thursday, demanding to know why a restriction was still on the student’s account even after he had sent them the documents they requested for.

An hour later, a member of the fraud team, who did not state their name, responded to the mail stating the following:

“Thank you for contacting us. Please note this has been resolved; an email was sent to the customer to this effect. Thank you.”

FIJ then immediately placed a phone call to Adedapo to confirm Kuda’s claim.

“Thank you so much, FIJ. I am indeed grateful. I can confirm that Kuda has indeed lifted the restriction. I feel very relieved now. I am very grateful once again,” said Adedapo delightedly. “Thank you for coming to my aid.”
