Arik Air, a Nigerian airline, has returned N121,336 to Tosin Ogunlade, a Lagos resident, after holding on to her refund for seven months.

Ogunlade confirmed the refund on July 17, nearly three weeks after FIJ first contacted the airline.

“I received an alert of N121,336 from Arik Air,” Ogunlade told FIJ.

“Many thanks to the FIJ team. I am grateful.”

FIJ had earlier reported how the airline held on to Ogunlade’s refund for seven months despite agreeing to a 50% forfeiture of her ticket fees.

The Lagos resident had booked a round trip with Arik Air from Lagos to Abuja for an interview in August 2022.

Her interview was cancelled and she approached the airline for a refund.

“When I got the message of the cancelled interview on August 21, which was on a Sunday, I immediately called to inform them but they did not respond. I tried multiple times until Monday when I eventually got in,” she told FIJ.

Ogunlade said Arik Air asked her to fill a refund form in which she would have to consent to a forfeiture of 50 percent of the total money.

“I sent a mail for a refund, and they sent a requirement for it. They said I could only get 50 percent of the whole money, which was around N100,000,” she said.

Ogunlade said she sent an email to Arik Air to consent to the arrangement on November 1, 2022, but that was the last she heard of it.

Arik Air finally made the refund to Ogunlade after FIJ contacted Adebanji Ola, the airline’s public relations and communications manager, who said that the airline would investigate it.
