Following FIJ’s report published on Wednesday, Access Bank has returned ₦600,000 belonging to Michael Ayodele Ogunjimi.

Ogunjimi, a panel beater based in Lagos State, told FIJ on Thursday evening that he had got credit alerts to the tune of the disputed amount.

With excitement, the panel beater told FIJ over the phone on Thursday that “the bank has returned my money”.

“I got three credit alerts worth ₦200,000 each this morning. I can now settle my debts,” he said.

He appreciated FIJ for helping to escalate his challenge to the bank for a quick resolution.

Ogunjimi had earlier explained to this newspaper that the amount in question was deducted from his account on March 3 in the process of paying for some mechanical spare parts, but the seller was not credited.

He followed up with the deductions at three different branches of the bank without a positive result despite the bank’s assurances.

“At the vendor’s shop, I made use of my card to pay for the materials I had bought, worth N824,000. For a reason, I had to make the payment in tranches. Each tranche was N200,000, and I did it four times,” he said.

“However, the recipient only got a N200,000 credit in her account, while the rest was declined. She gave me a receipt showing the transaction was declined thrice. But on my honour, she released the goods to me and I had to borrow money from friends to pay her.

“I pleaded with Access Bank to allow me access my money. It is not all my personal money. Walking in to their branches every now and then is frustrating. It has been affecting my work and service delivery to my customers.”
