Samson Dunamis, an Abuja-based pastor, has repaid the N200,000 he owed a United Kingdom-based Nigerian journalist since 2021.
This much-awaited development came on Sunday evening, less than 72 hours after FIJ published a report on the pastor’s refusal to refund the journalist after a business deal between them went awry.
Expressing his gratitude, the journalist said, “I have received the N200,000. Thank you very much. Thank you again.”
Earlier, FIJ’s report showed that the journalist, who preferred to be anonymous, accused Dunamis of refusing to refund his money and cutting ties with him after a failed deal.
The journalist told FIJ that the matter had persisted for two years, adding that the pastor evaded responsibility and made no genuine attempts to provide a full refund.
Recounting how he struck a deal with the pastor, the journalist said his connection with the pastor was established through Facebook. After the Facebook connection, he decided to invest in a business venture with Dunamis in June 2021.
“On June 1, 2021, Dunamis approached me with a deal requiring an approximate sum of N700,000 for completion. He proposed that if I contributed N500,000, he would reimburse me N700,000 within a period of seven to ten days,” the journalist explained to FIJ.
Despite not being physically present in Abuja at the time, the journalist proceeded to transfer the funds to Dunamis without a written agreement, he placed his trust in the pastor’s verbal assurance. However, as time elapsed, Dunamis failed to fulfil his commitment.
However, after he made the payment, the pastor began to give him the runaround before eventually cutting communication ties with him until FIJ intervened in April.
In April, when FIJ reached out to Dunamis for the first time, he promised to pay up and made a N300,000 part payment in May. He promised to pay the rest but did not do so until FIJ’s report.
