Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has declined a bail application filed in favour of Abba Kyari, the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

Ekwo said on Monday that the application had been voided by events, according to The Cable.

On Monday, Cynthia Ikenna, Abba Kyari’s counsel, told the court her client was suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

”The applicant is suffering from diabetes and is hypertensive and cannot be managed while in custody because the level of sugar has to be ascertained every morning and that would determine the drug he is going to take,” she said.

BREAKING: Court Shuns Abba Kyari’s Plea for Bail

On February 14, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) declared Kyari wanted “over his involvement in a 25kg cocaine deal”. Hours later, the police announced his arrest and subsequent transfer to the custody of the NDLEA.

Subsequently, Kyari filed a fundamental human rights suit against the federal government, describing the drug trafficking allegations against him as trumped-up.
