Ogumbo Farms Resources, a Facebook page staging as an agricultural produce vendor, has defrauded many of several thousands of naira.

Betty Nwosu (not real name), a victim of Ogumbo Farms Resources, has told FIJ how she lost N7,000 to the fake vendor.

“It was February 17. I saw the ad on Facebook for snails. I went through many comments and, on the strength of the comments I saw at the time, called the phone number. The man on the phone wanted percent payment before delivery, but I said no. I told him that I would make a 50 percent payment before delivery and pay the 50 percent balance on delivery. He accepted and this encouraged me,” Nwosu told FIJ on Thursday.

“He also said that there was a van in Eleyele, Ibadan, willing to deliver my order to Lagos by 5 pm if I paid on the same day. It was N14,000, including N2,000 delivery charge. So, I paid N7,000.

“By evening, I didn’t get any delivery or call, so I called him. As I introduced myself and asked why I had not received my order, he cut the call. I called him again but he stopped answering my calls.”

Nwosu told FIJ that she tried to call Ogumbo Farms Resources on February 18 to no avail. She said that she used another phone number to make a call to Ogumbo Farms Resources and got a response. The phone call ended immediately Nwosu reintroduced herself.

Nwosu told FIJ that Ogumbo Farms Resources blocked her phone numbers and Facebook account to prevent further communication.

FIJ found two Facebook accounts with the name ‘Ogumbo Farms Resources’. Both Facebook accounts advertised agricultural produce for sale.

While the first Ogumbo Farms Resources Facebook account had no bad reviews or comments, it used the same phone number as the second Ogumbo Farms Resources Facebook account. The second Ogumbo Farms Resources Facebook account has only bad reviews and multiple accusations from scam victims.

“They are fraudsters. Once payment is made, they do not deliver, and will block you from reaching them. The public should beware,” one of the reviews read on Facebook.

“Please beware, he is a scammer. He collected money and did not supply my order and has stop picking calls,” another victim complained.

The reviewers all agreed that Ogumbo Farms Resources was a scammer they had lost money to. One reviewer said that he lost N50,000 to Ogumbo Farms Resources in December 2022.

The bank account number linked to Ogumbo Farms Resources bears ‘Oluwaseun Ogumbo’ as its account name.

Unsuspecting customers could visit the first Facebook account and trust the vendor because of the absence of bad reviews. Some victims fell for the first Ogumbo Farms Resources Facebook account.

FIJ called the phone number linked to both Facebook accounts several times but the phone number was unavailable. The same phone number had not responded to a text message at press time.
