US President Joe Biden has called on Americans in Ukraine to leave the country immediately because of the possible invasion of the country by the Russian forces.
The president said he will not send the US military to rescue Americans if the Vladimir Putin-led Russian government invades Ukraine.
“American citizens should leave now,” he told NBC News anchor Lester Holt during an interview.
“It’s not like we’re dealing with a terrorist organization. We’re dealing with one of the largest armies in the world. It’s a very different situation, and things could go crazy quickly,” he said.

Despite massing over 100,000 troops near its border with Ukraine, Russia has repeatedly denied any plans to invade the country.
Russia has in recent times said it wants to enforce “red lines” to make sure Ukraine, its former Soviet neighbour, does not join NATO.
Asked whether there was a scenario that could prompt him to send troops to rescue fleeing Americans, Biden replied, “There’s not. That’s a world war when Americans and Russia start shooting at one another. We’re in a very different world than we’ve ever been”.

Meanwhile, world leaders have continued their frenzied diplomacy to defuse the crisis.
On Thursday, Ukraine and Russia reached no common ground after nine hours of talks with French and German officials aimed at ending the separatist conflict.
The current tensions come eight years after Russia annexed Ukraine’s southern Crimea peninsula. Since then, Ukraine’s military has been locked in a war with Russian-backed rebels near Russia’s borders.
