Boko Haram terrorists attacked Samunaka, Kurma and Allawa, communities in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, on Sunday, destroying houses, burning foodstuffs and killing livestock and people.

According to a resident of one of the communities, who spoke to FIJ, the terrorists first struck Samunaka, where they killed three people in the afternoon and set fire to food supplies. They then moved to Kurumi, where they killed one person, destroyed food items and set houses ablaze.

“Around 7:30 pm on Sunday, we started hearing gunshots from one side of the community. In that attack, they burned down 30 houses, 150 bags of soya beans and maize, and a lot of cattle were killed,” the resident told FIJ.

“No life was lost in Allawa. They shot at one, and he survived. Some ran for their lives and sustained injuries in the process. But this is not the first time they have shown up in Shiroro.”

He stated that the terrorists first attacked a mining site in Rasimkura on Friday, where they killed people, but the military repelled them later on in a gunshot exchange heard by members of the Allawa community.

He said that on February 12, some Shiroro residents were returning from the market in a convoy of five vehicles when Boko Haram terrorists ambushed them.

“On their way back, an alert driver noticed a suspicious spark of light, which turned out to be explosive mines planted by the terrorists at Miganda. Immediately, he slammed on his brake, and one of the vehicles rammed into these explosive mines planted by the Boko Haram terrorists along Allowa Pandogari Road.

“Immediately, all of them ran away. The Boko Haram packed about 35 women and children into the bush. They packed a lot of food items and went away with them, burning down three of the five vehicles carrying food.

“The following day, officers of the vigilante went there to evaluate the corpse by the roadside, and the terrorists shot at two of them.

According to the source, the terrorists killed four men and two women on February 12 and two of the vigilante officers on February 13.

When FIJ called Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Spokesperson, for comments, he said he would get back to this reporter.
