The Lagos State Government has ordered the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki.

This comes amid controversy over the mysterious death of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old JSS 2 student who was allegedly beaten to death in the school for refusing to join a cult.

The closure announcement was contained in a statement issued by the state’s ministry of education on Friday.

It was signed by Ganiu Lawal, assistant director, public affairs unit of the ministry.

It reads in part, “The Lagos State Government has ordered the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki, pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr., a student of the school.”

“The commissioner called for calm, saying no effort will be spared in getting to the root of the incident.”
