15.02.2022 Uncategorized Court Jails Ondo Woman Who Brutalised House Help

Following the arraignment of Opeyemi Omoyemi on a five-count charge, a Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has sentenced the 36 year-old to four and a half years in jail.

On February 6, Omoyemi was arrested for using a stick and razor blade to inflict deep cuts on Joel Sunday, her 12-year-old house help, for stealing a piece of meat.

Omoyemi had also engaged the services of Naomi, Joel’s underage sister, as a domestic help.

She pleaded guilty to a five-count charge bothering on causing grievous harm, attempted murder, human trafficking and endangering of life before a Magistrate Court in Akure on February 7.

While the two children have been withdrawn from her “they are in government’s care and to be registered in a motherless home in Akure”, a source told FIJ.

According to reports, Magistrate Edwin, the trial judge, adjourned until April 13 for trial on trafficking in persons, to which the defendant had pleaded not guilty.
