Yomi Oduneye, an Abuja-based civil servant, has recounted how Dana Airline, a Nigerian aviation company, violated its refund policy after cancelling his family’s flight abruptly.
Speaking with FIJ, Oduneye stated that the airline cancelled his family’s Abuja-Lagos flight scheduled for March 1 and refused to return his ticket fees.
“I booked a flight for my family with Dana Air. The flight was scheduled for March 1,” he told FIJ.

“However, 24 hours to the scheduled departure, Dana Air sent a message that the flight had been cancelled for operational reasons. We got another ticket with another airline because they needed to be in Lagos urgently.”
Oduneye said he immediately requested a refund from the airline. He added that although he met the conditions for a refund, his ticket fees were not reversed.
“After the cancellation, I immediately requested for a refund of N144,000 from Dana Air, and they gave me a plethora of conditions I had to meet to get my money,” he said.
“I was to send a refund letter, the account to be credited, government approved identification of the person that made payment and evidence of payment made. I met all these conditions but they still wouldn’t issue a refund.
“To my greatest surprise, each time I followed up on the refund, Dana gave an excuse that it was still processing it. It’s over a month already, and I have not received the refund.

“At some point, I copied the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which I believed is the regulatory body for airlines in Nigeria, in one of my refund requests to Dana Air, but the airline wouldn’t just budge.”
FIJ’s email and phone calls to Dana Air have not been responded to at press time.
