26.03.2024 Featured Days After Raising Alarm Over Threats to Life, Ondo Governorship Aspirant Dies

Paul Akintelure, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, who recently raised the alarm over threats to his life, is dead.

Akintelure died in the early hours of Tuesday, March 26, in Lagos State.

His death happened amid preparations for the APC governorship primary election scheduled for April 25.

A source told FIJ, “According to what I heard, he cried out that his life was being threatened last week. Afterwards, he was said to have also complained of chest pain. So, I think he went to Lagos for a checkup.”

CONCERNS ON THREATS ON THURSDAY, DEATH ON TUESDAY

As noted in a statement issued last Thursday before his death, Akintelure was concerned about direct and indirect threats to his life, which he said he had reported to security agents in the state.

In a report published by Peoples Gazette that Thursday, the deceased was quoted as saying, “Initially, I hope these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life.”

He was also quoted as saying, “The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward.

“Let us embrace peace, progress and unity. Our collective strength lies in our [ability] to stand together as one, regardless of our differences.”
