@CallmeTare and @ChibabaJoel, two Twitter users, have alleged that armed men who claimed to be police officers and officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed into their apartments, stole from them and assaulted them.

@CallmeTare reported that the incident occurred at about 3 am on Wednesday.  He said that the armed authorities broke into his residence in Asaba, Delta State, searched his belongings, and when they found nothing, brought him outside and assaulted him.

When FIJ contacted him, he stated that he was still disturbed by the events and couldn’t speak about it at the moment, but that he would when he was better.

Edafe Bright, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Police Command, told FIJ in a text message that he was not aware of any such reports, and that if it did happen, the victims should report to the nearest police station or call his number.

A mail sent to the EFCC had not been responded to at press time.
