A video of stashed money reportedly from the house of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, has gone viral.

Fatima Abdullahi, a Twitter user, was one of those who posted the 27-second video on Wednesday.

The video surfaced online days after the Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed Emefiele’s arrest following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.

CLAIM: DSS found a lot of money in Emefiele’s house.

VERIFICATION: FIJ found a publication by TheSpy Uganda, an Ugandan digital newspaper, which showed that the stashed money, running into millions of dollars, was found in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.

According to the report published on April 19, 2019, the money belonged to Omar El-Bashir, a former President of Sudan.

FIJ also found that the short video shared by Fatima Abdullahi was cut from a 51-second video published alongside the report on the ex-president.

CONCLUSION: The viral post of stashed money allegedly discovered by the DSS at Emefiele’s house is false.
