29.10.2021 news Ex-Lawmaker Who Headed Panel Probing Ganduje’s ‘Dollar Fraud’ Under Fire for Issuing Fake Receipts

Baffa Baba Dan’agundi, Managing Director of Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), is being investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for allegedly forging receipts.

He was accused by some KAROTA staff via a petition titled “Complaint Letter Against the Managing Director Of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) for Corrupt Activities,” addressed to the anti-graft agency.

According to the petition, since he assumed office, he has been authorising issuance of fake receipts at all the zonal offices with the aid of one Shehu, his brother.

The ICPC confirmed the ongoing investigation to Daily Trust.

Dan’agundi was appointed KAROTA MD in 2019 by the Abdullahi Ganduje administration months after losing a reelection bid to the State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Prior to his appointment on July 11, 2019, he occupied the position of House Majority Leader, and in 2018, headed the panel that probed Ganduje’s famous $230,000 bribery allegation after the governor was caught on camera stashing cash received from contractors.

While Ganduge allegedly received a total of $5 million from the deal, Dan’agundi’s panel never pursued the inquiry to a conclusion or briefed the public on its progress before a court ruling by Justice A.T. Badamasi killed it, ignoring four indicting videos.

Jafaar Jafaar, an Abuja-based journalist, who released the videos, remains in hiding.
